Young Discoverers is out now! We celebrated its launch on the Isle of Wight yesterday, with Daisy Morris, one of the twelve young discoverers featured in the book.
Daisy was just four years old when she discovered an unusual fossil on the beach near Shepherd’s Chine on the Isle of Wight. It turned out to be a hip bone from a small pterosaur – a previously undiscovered species. Daisy’s pterosaur was named after her: Vectidraco daisymorrisae (Daisy Morris’s Isle of Wight dragon!)

Daisy’s find inspired my book Young Discoverers – true tales of kids who made incredible discoveries. She is now twenty-two, and I was thrilled that she could join me yesterday at her old school Niton Primary, where her mum still teaches. In assembly, Daisy shared with us the full story of how she found the pterosaur and what happened afterwards.

In the afternoon, I enjoyed exploring the island, visiting Medina Bookshop (Cowes) and Waterstones (Newport). A big thank you to them for their support, and to the Morris family (pictured below with a replica of Daisy’s find) who have been ever so patient with my incessant questions over the last few years!

Young Discoverers is published by Wide-Eyed Editions and illustrated by Violaine Leroy, whose illustrations bring all twelve stories to life in such a beautiful and dynamic way.
